Plant sterols have a modulatory role in lipid metabolism, can reduce total cholesterol and triglycerides, the regulating role of the former is stronger than that of the latter. Plant sterols have lower serum LDL-C, and MDA content in serum and the AI value is reduced effectively, enhance the value of the AAI. Plant sterols soft capsule can increase the high density lipoprotein cholesterol. In addition, plant sterols have certain antioxidant activity, can effectively reduce the formation of lipid peroxide in the liver.
Conclusion: plant sterols can reduce experimental hyperlipidemia rats blood TC, TG and liver fat, and can inhibit lipid peroxidation in the liver, plant sterols regulate the lipid metabolism, antioxidation and preventing atherosclerosis effect. Plant sterols on serum lipids may be related to the kinds of experimental models and plant sterols.
